Thank you to everyone who came to training! Please sign up on the googledoc we sent out (email us if you would like to be added to the list serve!) and add us on org sync with the link below
We are not protesters. We do not attempt to engage the antis. As a group we take no position on the abortion issue and remain as apolitical as possible.
The only belief we advocate is that all women deserve to be treated with compassion, decency, and respect. We attempt to counter hate with empathy, cruelty with humanity, and judgment with understanding.
What We Do:
In a group of five (four escorts and one captain), we go to Summit Women’s Center in Bridgeport, CT where they perform abortions every Tuesday and Friday morning. We are a positive, supportive presence. Our job is to escort the women who would like to be escorted past the antis who are present and to the clinic door. There is a strong anti force in Bridgeport. We are not there to engage with the protesters, we are there for the women. We act as a barrier between their harassment and the women who wish to enter the clinic. We are not affiliated with the clinic, but our presence is both respected and appreciated.
What You Do As An Individual:
Each escort will only actually escort once or twice a semester, unless there are not enough escorts to make it through the entire semester. Once you pick a date for escorting, you are responsible for keeping that commitment. We meet at 6:15 am in the WesShop parking lot. You will be back in time for 10 am classes.
